The Complete Umrah Packing List: What to Carry

A lean, well-organized bag makes the whole trip easier — less to carry through airports, less to keep track of at the hotel, and less to worry about losing. Here's everything worth packing, grouped by category.

Documents

• Passport, with at least six months' validity remaining
• Umrah visa confirmation and travel itinerary (printed and saved on your phone)
• Vaccination certificates, if required for your travel dates
• Hotel booking confirmations
• A few passport-sized photographs, in case they're needed on arrival
• Emergency contact list — your operator's office and WhatsApp number, family back home, and your hotel

Ihram and clothing

• For men: two sets of unstitched Ihram sheets (pack a spare), a money belt or waist pouch that doesn't require stitched clothing, and comfortable sandals
• For women: modest, loose-fitting clothing in breathable fabric, a few changes, and a headscarf you're comfortable wearing for extended periods
• A light jacket or shawl for air-conditioned mosques and cooler evenings
• Comfortable walking shoes for the distances between your hotel and the Haram

Toiletries

• Unscented soap, shampoo, and deodorant (scented products are avoided during Ihram)
• Toothbrush and unscented toothpaste
• Wet wipes and tissues — genuinely useful throughout the trip
• Small nail clippers (used before entering Ihram, not during)
• Sunscreen — unscented if you'll be applying it while in Ihram

Health and comfort

• Any personal prescription medication, with a copy of the prescription
• Basic first-aid items: pain relief, rehydration salts, blister plasters
• A refillable water bottle
• Hand sanitizer and a small pack of face masks
• A neck pillow and eye mask for the flight

Electronics and money

• Phone and charger, plus a portable power bank — you'll use your phone more than usual for navigation and photos
• A universal travel adapter, if needed
• A small amount of Saudi Riyal in cash, plus a card that works internationally
• A money pouch that sits securely under clothing

What not to carry

• Sharp objects or anything restricted by airline and Saudi customs rules — check the current list before you pack
• Excess cash beyond what you're comfortable carrying
• Scented products you intend to use once in Ihram
• Overly heavy luggage — most airlines cap checked baggage around 23kg, and a lighter bag is genuinely easier to manage between the airport, hotel, and Haram
